Terrible Conspiracy in The King of Torts

Clay Carter has been working for the Office of Public Defenders (OPD) for five years. As a public defender, he doesn't have the fame and fortune an attorney-at-law usually has.

Being bright and quite ambitious, Clay looks foreward to having just enough money to have a better car to replace his old sedan. Besides, his girlfriend and her parents seem eager to see him in a better financial condition. And that means leaving OPD for one of those big law firms, or founding his own law firm to catch big-time clients.

And opportunity knocks. Clay accepts an offer to settle a case of class action suing a big company, for which he has to leaveOPD. So he does, and he settles the case with flying colors. Getting extremely big bucks is just one of the consequences. In no time he becomes one of the topten moneymaking lawyers, and he is crowned The King of Torts. He doestn't exactly do extortionsn but that's what the big companies he sues think about him. But life isn't easy up there high in his kingdom. Some of his former clients sue him claiming back every penny he has been earning!

Grisham once again wrote a story concerning legal matters. Unlike the ones he previously worte, The King of Torts doesn't go much into court trials. Grisham tries to expose the other side of an attorney's business : making deals outside the court roomwithout a trial, and that means without performing before the judge and the grand jury.

But he doesn't leave out the luxuries big-time lawyers enjoy, and the simple yet precious conscience all human beings should have.
